Taller Guaguarey’s mission is to provide and promote year-round, free classes in the art of pottery making in Cayey, Puerto Rico. Members of the local and neighboring communities now enroll in studio classes ranging from hand building to wheel throwing.
The Taller seeks to:
- Maintain free pottery classes, with an open registration policy, accessible to all members of our community.
- Provide full access to tools, glazes, and other resources that insure broad skill development for all students, based on their goals for the class.
- Motivate participants to create clay pieces of the highest quality, thus supporting their ability to generate income from their work with clay.
- Inspire each student to discover and explore the artistic talents and visions that reside within.
- Build each participant’s connections to self, community, the Earth, and Puerto Rican cultural traditions through the art of pottery making.
- Provide inspiration to the larger Puerto Rican community, and integrate students, tourists and other visitors so that they may experience the practical and spiritual values of working with clay.
