Last semester ended on a happy note. Another student, Milagros Chevere, was certified as a Puerto Rican artisan by the Department of Fomento. In the classroom, we celebrated Milagro’s achievement thus generating a positive rippling effect, boosting morale and encouraging optimism regarding the adult students’ potential.

In the children’s class, we introduced clay projects focusing on the endemic birds of Puerto Rico and the Leatherback sea turtles. The children were eager to learn the different characteristics of the endemic birds and where they nest. They were thrilled when we presented photos and videos about the turtles. The Leatherback sea turtles are the largest of all sea turtle species and are drawn to Puerto Rico’s beaches for nesting. As a result, the children produced beautiful clay artwork.
