This semester brought meaningful learning experiences in and beyond the classroom.

Although their program concluded in December, we would like to once again recognize six advanced students who successfully completed the full progression of the Ceramic Arts Program. Their years of training in wheel throwing, hand-building, and glazing culminated in strong technical and artistic growth.

This semester, students and instructors attended the workshop Basic Aspects of Museography and Exhibition Development, facilitated by Lionel Ortiz Meléndez on February 21, 2026. The workshop provided an opportunity for discussion, questions, and reflection on how artistic work is communicated and experienced within exhibition spaces.

In the Children’s Program, imagination and curiosity guided much of the semester’s work. Students enthusiastically sculpted vejigantes, dinosaurs, and, most notably, humpback whales. Their interest in these remarkable animals led to conversations about the annual migration of humpback whales to Puerto Rico’s warm waters, where they give birth to and care for their calves during the winter months.

Looking ahead, Taller Guaguarey is committed to expanding opportunities for more students to pursue and achieve certification as Puerto Rican artisans through the Compañía de Fomento Industrial de Puerto Rico.
