Last semester had success stories. There were happy smiles of students learning to center clay on the pottery wheel, and others elaborating beautifully crafted coil, slab and pinch pot projects. It was inspiring to watch as students successfully overcame the challenges that come with the art of pottery making within an atmosphere of fellowship and support.
We are proud to share an update on Luis Morales. Last year, he was one of eight students certified by the Department of Fomento which extends technical, financial, marketing and advertising assistance for artisans and develops an education and motivation campaign for consumers to patronize local artisans.
As a result of his certification as a Puerto Rican artisan, Luis is able to sell his beautifully crafted pottery pieces. He receives invitations to festivals throughout Puerto Rico. We wish him success in all his endeavors!
On our last day of the semester, we joined the rest of the school outdoors in the Plaza of Cayey. My students chose to engage in a live class instead of exhibiting finished pieces. We enjoyed the interaction with the public!
